About

Rusty Lowe, EMT-P has been involved in pre-hospital care as a Paramedic for 21 years. Currently he is a Fire Lieutenant/Paramedic with the Hoover, Alabama Fire Department functioning as shift Lieutenant on an Advanced Life Support Engine at Station 1. Other responsibilities include co-coordinating the City of Hoover’s Emergency Operations Plan (Disaster Plan) and assisting with fire department related Homeland Security issues. He also is Chair of the United States Eventing Association (USEA) Safety Committee, Co-Vice-Chair of the United States Equestrian Foundation (USEF) Safety Committee, Board of Directors of the American Medical Equestrian Association/Safe Riders Foundation (AMEA/SRF) formerly serving as Executive Director and is a member of various other equestrian and Fire/EMS related organizations.
Rusty has an extreme interest in safety at equestrian events particularly in eventing. His goals are to prevent as many accidents as possible and insure rapid, proper care for the rider in the event that an accident or medical emergency occurs. Spectators and others at events are an overlooked consideration that Rusty incorporates into plans for events.
As Safety Coordinator or Medical Officer, Rusty assists Officials and Organizers in formulating a plan that addresses all safety considerations for the particular venue. Most plans are catered to the size of the event, location of the event and layout. Rusty then works to ensure that EMS providers are familiar with the venue and potential problems they could encounter, have adequate resources and are ready to respond quickly. He is the liaison between the responders and officials maintaining appropriate communications with both.
Rusty’s experience has been at the Foxhall Cup CCI***, Rolex CCI****, the Event at Goose Downs, Trott Brook Horse Trials, Red Hills Horse Trials, Jersey Fresh CCI**, Fair Hill CCI***/2003 Pan American Games and the Cahaba Horse Trials. He still continues to serve at most of these events that are still in existence and consults other events.
Please contact Rusty for any of these services or questions related to your event.
